Ilze Indriksone to be National Alliance's candidate for economics minister

RIGA, May 19 (LETA) - The National Alliance will nominate Economics Ministry's parliamentary secretary Ilze Indriksone for the position of the economics minister, said National Alliance's leader Raivis Dzintars in the Latvian public television on Thursday evening.

He said that the board shortly before Kas Notiek Latvija program on Thursday decided to support Indriksone as the candidate for the minister.

Dzintars said that Indriksone has been selected to ensure continuity in the ministry.  Dismissed economics minister Janis Vitenbergs will be asked to assist the new minister.

As reported, the National Alliance demanded a resignation of Interior Minister Marija Golubeva (For Development) following the events at the monument to Soviet soldiers in Riga's Pardaugava on May 9 and 10, threatening that the National Alliance will leave the government if she remains in the position. Golubeva announced her resignation on Monday because she had lost support of the prime minister, she said.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins (New Unity) then demanded the resignation of one of the National Alliance's ministers because of the "blackmail attempt", later picking Economics Minister Janis Vitenbergs as the one who has to step down.
