Approximately 30 persons in Latvia have recovered from Covid-19; 2,200 more are currently in self-quarantine

RIGA, March 31 (LETA) - Approximately 30 persons in Latvia have recovered from Covid-19, with another 2,200 currently in self-quarantine, Jurijs Perevoscikovs, head of the Infectious Disease Risk Analysis and Prevention Department at the Center for Disease Prevention and Control, told members of the press today.

Perevoscikovs explained that epidemiologists have identified about 2,200 people as close contacts of Covid-19 patients. These people must now self-quarantine for 14 days, while staying at home and monitor their health.

These persons are family members, colleagues, patients or friends of persons that have been infected with Covid-19. "The virus doesn't segregate," said Perevoscikovs.

The Center for Disease Prevention and Control is in contact with family physicians, who have the final say whether or not a person has completely recovered from Covid-19 infections. Perevoscikovs said that family physicians are the ones that must organize sample testings, and then they then informs of the results. During an audio conference yesterday, the Center for Disease Prevention and Control reminded family physicians about this requirement.

These family physicians informed the Center for Disease Prevention and Control about patients that are no longer infected with Covid-19. However, the center still plans to get into contact with these persons to find out about their situations.

''They have certainly recovered, but we wish to be completely confident that they are completely rid of the virus,'' the specialist said.

Perevoscikovs said that it takes about a month for a persons infected with Covid-19 to be completely free of the virus.

As reported, with 22 more people testing positive for the novel coronavirus in the past 24 hours, the total number of Covid-19 cases in Latvia has grown to 398, according to information released by the Center for Disease Prevention and Control.

Of the 27 Covid-19 patients that are being treated in hospital, 24 are cases of moderate severity and three are severe cases, which means the patients have pneumonia and need ventilation.

Altogether, 500 people were tested for Covid-19 during the last 24 hours. The total number of Covid-19 tests conducted so far reached 14,807.
