Number of coronavirus cases in Latvia rises to 398 as 22 more people test positive for Covid-19

RIGA, March 31 (LETA) - With 22 more people testing positive for the novel coronavirus in the past 24 hours, the total number of Covid-19 cases in Latvia has grown to 398, according to information released by the Center for Disease Prevention and Control.

Of the 27 Covid-19 patients that are being treated in hospital, 24 are cases of moderate severity and three are severe cases, which means the patients have pneumonia and need ventilation.

Altogether, 500 people were tested for Covid-19 during the last 24 hours. The total number of Covid-19 tests conducted so far reached 14,807.

As reported, epidemiologists announced last Wednesday that they have not been able to trace several new Covid-19 cases back to travelers returning from abroad or residents who contracted the virus from these travelers, which means that community spread of Covid-19 has begun in Latvia.

It has also been reported that in an effort to contain the spread of Covid-19, a state of emergency has been declared in Latvia from March 13 to April 14, imposing a number of restrictions in order to curb the infections.
