Security and well-being of Eastern neighbors matters to Latvia - president

RIGA, July 12 (LETA) - Security and well-being of the Eastern neighbors matters to Latvia, Latvian President Raimonds Vejonis told Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during the meeting on Thursday on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Brussels.

According to the Latvian president's office, Vejonis said that Latvia was supporting the reform process in Armenia, in particular as regards the judiciary, the rule of law and the national economy.

"Reforms must be carried out because the population needs them most. As Latvia has vast reform experience, we know that the reform process is not always quick and easy," the Latvian president.

Vejonis also wished luck and endurance to Pashinyan, who took office as the Armenian prime minister in May this year.

Both officials stressed the need for stepping up bilateral political and economic cooperation, making use of the opportunities opened by the EU-Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement, among other things.
