Government reappoints Spure as Prison Administration's head for second term

RIGA, April 17 (LETA) - The Cabinet of Ministers today reappointed Ilona Spure as the head of the Prison Administration for a second term.

Justice Minister Dzintars Rasnacs (National Alliance) stressed at the government meeting that Spure had built a strong team running and developing the Prison Administration, one that was able to secure financing for the Prison Administration's projects.

Spure in turn thanked the ministers for placing their trust in her and said she would continue the Prison Administration's reforms.

As reported, the Justice Ministry explained earlier that three months prior the expiry of the Prison Administration chief’s current term in office the government has to decide whether to re-appoint or replace the head of the Prison Administration. The decision taken based on the justice minister’s recommendations.

To ensure an effective and proper functioning of the Prison Administration, Rasnacs recommended re-appointing its current head Spure for another five-year term, which would end on July 18, 2023.

Spure has been heading the Prison Administration since July 2013. Before that she was the head of the Prison Administration’s Resocialization Service.
